Tracking & Image Domains with Auto-HTTPS
Intro
Tracking and image domains allow you to use your own branded domains for email tracking and hosted images in Ongage.
A tracking domain is required and is used to track email opens, clicks, and unsubscribes. An image domain is optional and enables you to use Ongage’s built-in image library.
For best-practice branding and deliverability, we recommend using subdomains of your sending domain. For example, if you send from mybrand.com, you might use trk.mybrand.com for tracking and img.mybrand.com for images.
Managed Auto-HTTPS
New tracking and image domains are automatically secured with HTTPS and fully managed by Ongage—no certificates to purchase, renew, or upload.
Setup requires adding a CNAME record to your DNS. Once configured, Ongage handles HTTPS certificate provisioning and renewals automatically.
Add a New Tracking and/or Image Domain
Go to Settings → Tracking & Image Domains
Click on the New Domain button.
In the Add a New Tracking and/or Image Domain dialog, enter the subdomain you want to use.
Under Type, select Tracking or Image.
Click the Add button.
And the domain will be added with the Status: Awaiting CNAME
Add the CNAME Record and Verify Your Domain
After adding your domain in Ongage, select Show DNS Setup from the domain’s ⋮ menu to view the required CNAME record.
Add the CNAME record to your DNS provider. We recommend setting the TTL to 60 seconds when creating the record.
Once the CNAME record has been added, select Verify from the domain’s ⋮ menu.
Once the CNAME record is detected, Ongage will automatically verify your domain and begin activating HTTPS. No further action is required.
Once verified the status of the domain will change to Active – meaning HTTPS for this domain is active and your domain is ready to use!
Migrating Existing Domains to Auto-HTTPS
Existing tracking and image domains created before Auto-HTTPS may not yet be using Ongage’s fully managed HTTPS service. Depending on their current configuration, they will appear with one of the following statuses and can be easily upgraded to Auto-HTTPS.
Active (Not HTTPS): Your domain is active but is not using HTTPS.
Active (Manual HTTPS): Your domain is active and using HTTPS, but it isn't yet using Ongage Auto-HTTPS.
All active domains will remain active throughout the process, ensuring a completely seamless transition.
Select Convert to Auto-HTTPS from the domain’s ⋮ menu to upgrade and enable automatic HTTPS certificate management.
After clicking on Convert to Auto-HTTPS the status of the domain will change to Converting to HTTPS…
After a few minutes the status should change to Active (Pending CNAME switch)
That means your domain is active and using Auto-HTTPS.
BUT, to fully complete the setup and receive a dedicated HTTPS certificate for that domain (which is best practice), please update your CNAME record as shown under "Show DNS Setup".
Follow the instructions from the previous section: “Add the CNAME Record and Verify Your Domain” to fully complete the process.
If you choose not to convert your domain to Auto-HTTPS, no action is required—Ongage will automatically migrate it over the weeks following the Auto-HTTPS launch on August 9, 2026.
